SCS Colour Challenge CC482

Last week Mary presented a colour challenge that really impressed me and I have been dying to try out my new found watercolour skills.

The colours as you can see on your left are quite strong and I have taken some liberties and used more of  a red than a strawberry pink but that is all. I have also discovered that a small set of children's paint brushes purchased from Ikea work as well if not better than all my Kalinsky sable brushes. You just never know what is going to work and what isn't.
I used Stays On ink and stamped the design then did a wash in blue another in pink and then used  a Jo Sonia aqua  for the water which worked well even though it isn't water colour paint as such. I will be using my acrylics just because I have such a lot of them.
For more detail on this card pop over to my SCS gallery.
Thanks for looking, hope it inspires.
Cheers

SCS CC 483 Colour Challenge

When I saw this challenge the little rhyme immediately sprang to mind "Blue and green should never be seen unless there is a colour in between" despite that I'm quite happy with the way the colours are working.
I always have to have a couple of goes before I'm happy with results when using the SU wheels but love using them.

This is basically a cas card as it is only one layer on the front panel with a little bit of paper piecing to lift the colour and give it a bit of dimension.
I masked the middle panel with Post It note paper to give me somewhere to add the greeting.
Thanks for looking hope it inspires. There are more of my cards on my SCS gallery
Cheers

Things I've Been Doing

Over the last weekend 7th and 8th June I spent the weekend at a Water Colour Workshop sponsored by DFAQ with artist Cherly Bruce.
It was a fantastic two days and I loved it.
I had never done anything with water colours unless you want to count me abusing my H2O's which I now have a better idea of how to use.
DH (Rick) made my backing boards out of marine ply sanded them and then put three layers of varnish over them so they were the most impressive back boards at the workshop. I have also discovered that cutting mats make great back boards.
I loved doing the washes and am really happy with the way they turned out. I think I will do a little more detail in future works but am happy enough with my first attempt and learning how to prep your paper and mix your washes.
I can't recommend enough workshops, it's a great way to get kick started with anything you want to do.

This is the second painting done during the water colour weekend sponsored by DFAQ with Cheryl Bruce. I didn't enjoy this one as much as the first one but learned heaps of techniques and it has inspired me to combine my card making with water colour. Keep tuned.
